What are VOCs?
VOCs, or Volatile Organic Compounds, are chemicals that turn into gas easily. They’re found in everyday products like paint, stain, paint remover, and cleaning supplies. Many VOCs smell awful, give you headaches, and can make your eyes, nose, or throat feel irritated.
Why does it matter?
Breathing in VOCs often, especially indoors, can be harmful to your health. That’s why it’s important to use these products in places with good airflow, like near open windows or with fans running. Even though low-VOC technology has improved a lot over the years, VOCs are still used because they help paint and similar products spread more smoothly, stick better, last longer, cover more area, and look more colorful.
What are the rules?
The U.S. government has rules about how much VOC can be in each product. Some states and counties have even stricter rules to protect people’s health. Because of these laws, we can only sell you products that are allowed where you live. Sometimes that means you won’t be able to order certain items, but we’ll always try to offer other options that work just as well.
How can I shop smarter?
Some brands make the same product in different versions. To help you tell them apart, we’ve added labels to our products. If you see “Low Odor,” that means it’s a low-VOC version. “High Performance” means it has more VOCs, and “Maximum Performance” means it has the most. If you live in a state like California, look for the low-VOC version. In places like South Carolina, you can choose whichever version you prefer.
